Questions people ask before signing up

If yours is not here, ask on the enquiry form and we will answer it before you commit to anything.

Do I own the website?

No, and we would rather be straightforward about that than bury it. The website itself is rented as part of your subscription, which is what allows there to be no upfront cost. If you leave, the site comes down.

Your domain name is a different matter. That is yours, and you can take it with you.

What happens to my domain if I leave?

It goes to you, as long as any registration fees we have paid on your behalf have been settled. There is a £15 charge to release it, which covers the time it takes to do the transfer properly.

If you registered the domain yourself, it never leaves your control in the first place and there is nothing to do.

How much does a domain name cost?

A .co.uk is usually somewhere around £10 to £15 a year. A .com is normally £12 to £20 a year. Some unusual endings cost considerably more.

Domains are billed separately from your plan. We are happy to register one for you and we pass on exactly what it costs us with nothing added. You are equally welcome to buy it yourself and just point it at us.

Why is there a twelve month minimum?

Because the build happens at the start and the payments arrive over time. A site that takes a fortnight to make is not covered by one or two months of subscription, and the twelve months is what makes it possible to have no deposit at all.

After the first twelve months it carries on month to month and you can stop whenever you want.

What counts as a free change?

Editing text, swapping a photo, updating your prices, opening hours, staff or services. The everyday things that other people charge you half an hour for.

Building a new page, adding a booking system or redesigning a section is separate work and we will quote you before starting. You will never receive a bill you did not agree to first.

Can I phone you?

We work by email and WhatsApp rather than by phone, and that is deliberate. It means requests get written down, nothing gets lost, and we spend our time building rather than sitting on calls. It also means you get a proper, considered answer rather than whatever comes to mind first.

Every plan works this way, so it is not something that changes as you spend more with us.

How quickly will my site be live?

One to two weeks from your first payment for a standard site, provided we have your content. Add roughly another week if you need an online shop, a booking system or anything that has to connect to software you already use.

The part that usually causes delay is content. If your photos and words are ready, we are quick.

Do you build on WordPress?

Yes. We build on WordPress, and online shops on WooCommerce. We do not use Wix or Squarespace, and we do not build Shopify stores or mobile apps.

That is not snobbery. It is that those platforms rent you the ground your business stands on, and WooCommerce does not take a cut of your sales.

Where are you based and who will I be dealing with?

We are two web developers based in Sandy, Bedfordshire. We work with businesses across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire and, since everything is done over email, with businesses anywhere else in the UK too.

You deal with the people who build your site. There is nobody in between.

Can you take over a website somebody else built?

Sometimes. If it is a WordPress site in reasonable health, usually yes, and we will tell you what it would cost to look after.

If it was built on a platform we cannot move or the code is in a poor state, we will say so and quote for rebuilding it instead of pretending otherwise.

Do you only work with businesses near Sandy?

No. We are based in Sandy and most of our clients are in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, but a build works the same way regardless of where you are, since it all happens by email and the site itself is never visited in person. If you are further afield, say so on the enquiry form and we will confirm it is not a problem.

What if I want an online shop or a booking system?

That sits on the Pro plan. Shops are built on WooCommerce rather than Shopify, so there is no monthly platform fee and no percentage taken from your sales. Booking systems are set up to suit what you actually need, whether that is appointments, tables or classes.

What happens if I stop paying?

We will get in touch if a payment fails rather than taking the site down immediately. If it stays unpaid, the site is suspended and then eventually comes offline. Your domain and your content remain yours regardless, under the same terms as if you had cancelled normally.
